St. James is a Long Island hamlet located in the towns of Smithtown and Islip in Suffolk County, New York, and as of 2010, the estimated population was approximately 13,400. Located on Long Island’s north shore, this small hamlet only consists of 4.5 square miles of total area, all of which is land. This community is home to a variety of 19th Century structures that are located around North Country Road, otherwise known as State Route 25A. The climate of Ronkonkoma is similar to other Northeastern coastal areas, and while winters are cool and wet, summers are usually humid and warm. Its location on the Atlantic also limits the severity and frequency of thunderstorms.
There are a variety of attractions located in St. James that might appeal to residents and visitors. Golf enthusiasts may enjoy playing a round at the Nissequogue Golf Club, and one of the oldest operating general stores, St. James General Store, is located in this community.
